Students who attend Nightingale may require additional support to enable them to access the full school curriculum. Pupil premium funding is designed to support students from disadvantaged backgrounds to improve their attainment by funding interventions that will enable them to overcome barriers to learning. For example, some students will receive targeted literacy and numeracy programmes in order to help them progress.
At Nightingale, we have also identified that some barriers to learning relate to students’ emotional and mental health or with the way they relate to each other, to school, their families and communities. For some students, help with managing their feelings and developing confidence and positive self-esteem is essential to academic progress. Some students will be offered counselling and/or mentoring for example.
